The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) are preparing an environmental impact statement (EIS) for construction and operation of a high-speed rail (HSR) proposed by a private company–the Texas Central High-Speed Railway—to run between Dallas and Houston. The EIS will be used to evaluate route alternatives for passenger rail in this corridor, which currently has no passenger rail service. This EIS will be prepared according to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The proposed project would provide reliable, safe and an economically viable passenger rail transportation using proven high-speed rail technology between Dallas and Houston, thus providing a convenient alternative to automobile travel on Interstate 45 (I-45) or air travel between the two major metropolitan areas.
